Manuring a raised bed

Either     I've been experimenting - okay, it wasn't a planned one, more a case of this year on the big plot I only had time to wheelbarrow the stuff and toss it on top of very heavy clay.  It had just been given a single dig, and the summer fruiting crops were planted through it.  I've had the best courgette, marrows, squash, cucumber, peppers & chillis (the latter 2 haven't ripened, but I had loads of fruit) and sweetcorn.  I think the tomatoes would have been great too if it had not been for the blight.

Digging in does improve the soil structure and I suppose is best for the crops that take longer to grow.
