The side of the raspberry plants seems to indicate that they will be pickable sometime in Aug-September. Does that count as summer or autumn flowering, and what is the implication for fruiting on this/next year's growth?

If that's the case, it looks like they are "primocane" autumn raspberries, which fruit on the cane thrown up the same year.

If so they will fruit on the new growth that appears in the spring, and the whole lot should be cut down to 1"-2" above the ground late autumn after fruiting.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My Agriculturally advanced Mother in law advised that the green shoots on the blackcurrant were good things insofar as it indicated the blighter was alive, but that it meant that they should go into the ground sooner rather than later.

Also some of the red currants had 'furry bits' on the ends of the stems :?  I don't  know whether this was mould or some kind of protective thingy done by the nursery, but I got the ones that didn't have this  :D

AA M-i-L said that it was mould and best avoided, so nice choice.
