Here's my little one I rescued

He's still got a way to go on the weight front, I'll be keeping him awake longer than he would be in the wild to make sure he's well over the 600g when he does hibernate.

The problem with them being under 600gs is they littrally starve to death whilst in hybernation  :(

Rob's right the claws can be quite nasty   If it's small the spines shouldn't be a problem.
The spines get harder as they grow so small hedgehogs have quite soft spines :)

Really hope you've had some luck catching it

Sarah :)

I've bitten mine all my life. I still maintain that it's given me a good immune system (don't ask  ) so it's not all bad.

I've tried a few times and managed to grow one or two nails for about a week or so, while still biting the rest, but I'd lose concentration and find myself undoing all the good work.

If my hands are busy doing something useful and enjoyable, I'm fine. But doing college work or tryign to work out finances, etc and those nails take a beating  :?

Approx how big, front to back, would a 600g hedgie be?

we've had one hanging around for a few days (probably because we keep putting cat food out for a neighbours neglected cat but that's another story) and it's around 8" long.   It looks about adult sized and I've no idea how big a 600g hog would be so any help would be appreciated  :?
