What is it? And what do I do with it?
« on: October 05, 2008, 17:50 »
Hi,

A fellow plotter gave me this thing !!

What is it?
And how do I cook it?
Do you have any recipes for it?
It is the most lovely colour green and it is quite heavy!
Thanks FB

its a  squash of some type. Chop it up and roast it, put it in stews or whatever.

Not sure but that type may be called Turks Turban?

Looks very much like a Crown Prince to me!! Great winter squash, basically same as pumpkin.  Make lovely soups and have excellent keeping qualities ie store well over the winter.  The reason I'm so sure is because we've got 4 sitting on the kitchen side at the moment!!

(then again, don't blame me if it's not and you get poisoned!!)

Pretty much looks like a Crown Prince to me too - rather on the pale side though-, which means nothing else than it is commonly available.

There probably are a load of pumpkins that look like that, which ones we do not much know.

At any rate it will store well, if you like as it's dead ripe looking and roast whenever. Take seeds out as per summer squash, chop, scoop and roast in bits. I find best to do this on a low heat for longer. It should be very nice.

it's a CP and it will cook up a treat. They are firm fleshed so will keep their shape if cubed in a curry or a rice dish. The flesh is bright orange. I like to make curry with it  :D

OH no I accidently planted 5 turks turbins instead of butternuts and have loads of them and now everyone says they are horrible - perhaps I can give them away I thought perhaps because they are so ugly they would taste nice.
