Blackberry and apple, and damson varenie, and green tomato chutney.

We call it varenie as we don't put enough sugar in it or boil it for long enough to set it into jam.  SWMBO is Russian and prefers varenie, and tbh I do too.

The chutney was made after I gave up on the toms ever ripening in the garden, and is delicious, even little Leo likes it, and he's not even 1 yo yet, mind you we've not found much he doesn't like, he takes after his dad.

We borrowed a big pot this year and it makes such a difference than faffing about refilling smaller ones, although it's a bit thin and things tend to burn quickly.

This weekend we'll be doing something with apples, then will go for a forage and see what else is out there.  We're running out of jars though.

I grew up in a family where we always potted and preserved, and it gives me a nice warm feeling to look at all that lovely food all lined up ready for winter.  I'm a country boy at heart.
