should I segregate feed?
« on: September 25, 2008, 15:05 »
I have grown up hens, hens that have just started laying and six week old chicks plus the grown up ducks....  Ok so I bought all the different , layers, growers and chick stuff but in reality they of course all run together and all eat all of it.....

Oh and yes the rabbits love all of it!  They don't eat huge amounts of any of it cos they are roaming around eating whoever they find in the garden...SO....should I have bothered at all?

The youngsters should really be on the growers, but if their not segregated its a prob    I found my older girls preferred the growers, to the layers, so I gave up & gave them all layers from around 12 weeks

I too gave up on trying to keep the food seperate, when i got my new POL girls they needed to be on layers pellets and the growers pellets my younger girls ( 12 wks then) were eating said not to feed beyond 15 wks because of the coccidiostats in it so put them all onto layers pellets. cant see any other way really??

Just check that you're growers don't contain ACS as it's poisonous to ducks and you can't eat the eggs when hens eat feed with ACS.

Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

Oh my goodness... quickly been out to check!!!! It is organic feed and gives a list of things that it does NOT contain so I think it must be ok... The ducks look fine ....only the one bantam is laying at the moment so we have not given any eggs away...  What does ACS stand for?
