Well I think we've eventually sorted it. We had a battle of wills for a few days, tried branches on the roof, which they just forced their way through, then tried opening the roof up, but they just balanced on the uprights! (Wish I'd taken pictures of that!). Eventually resorted to clipping their wings. They sulked for a few hours, but now they put themselves to bed around 6.45 every night.

We've now named then as well. Milly, Molly and Mandy. They even line up in that order!
