That thing that looks like it should be called bindweed - is bindweed red? I've been digging it up as best I can but I noticed some coming up from under my shed - in spite of the concrete slabs. I'm wondering what spell needs to be cast to deal with it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Sounds possible - although bindweed is usually white flowers. Any chance of a photo?

The spell requires 10 dead pigeons from Wistaston Green Allotments (bring your own gun) :)

I've been down to the library and I think it's Japanese Knotweed (aargh!). It seems to be creeping under the fence from the surrounding houses but only in one corner. I'll keep chopping it off at the legs. But any further advice would be appreciated, especially spells.

Hmmm, I think you will have to poison the knotweed unless you are happy to keep ripping it up. My wife used to work in weed resistence and plant pathology, she knows her stuff enough to get her out of digging at my plot. :)

Unless you dig all the roots up (carefully without breaking them) it will come back. Its basically like bindweed but even stronger. As they are coming from a garden I guess it would be difficult.

One other thing I remember is that you can tell the council about it and they will, in some areas, remove the knotweed for you, well for everybody really because it is a real problem nowadays. My wifes not here at the moment for me to check with but that was certainly the case about 6 years or so ago.

Info on japanese knotweed. It's so bad, there's laws about it.

thanks for the advice - I think I'll have to tell the allotment man and get them to do something drastic on the other side of the fence.
Fortunately there's only a few bits my side. I think I'll just keep cutting it back and dispose of the bits carefully (post to Chernobyl?).

I called in the B52s over the weekend, with the glyphosate. I had to do it twice because it rained on Saturday afternoon.
I'll report on progress.

i had some of that rotten stuff once, glysophate is the way to go. takes alot of doses to kill it, but it gets it in the end. there is another chemical that is a bit stronger but you need a PA1/ PA6 LICENCE to use it/ buy it. :(
