Chicks & Rain
« on: September 04, 2008, 09:39 »
Hi all
Well after my last post where I thought none of my eggs were fertile, turns out they were (never going to go by those candling pic's again, lol)

Luckily I had left them with the hen as being my first time with hatching, so wanted to make sure

So now we have 3 lovely chicks that are now 1 week old.

I have them in a rabbit hutch and have attached a larger run for the day time.  (will add pic when I remember how)

Question is are they ok outside with Mum in all this rain? And is getting rather cold

Thanks in advance
Sally

Cold isn't too bad but cold and rain can be fatal.

The chicks will use up lots of energy trying to stay warm, energy that they should be putting into growth. If you can keep them somewhere warm with their mum out of the wind and the rain, then they should be fine.

And (hopefully) here's the pic.
I will try and take some more when it's not pouring with rain

I use thick polythene over my runs when it’s raining too and I have also bought some 6x4 tarpaulins from an Agricultural show for a £1 each.
