Parsnips & Netting

I have my raised veggie bed netted off to avoid damage from pidgeons, cats etc. This has been great for my onions, garlic and cabbage but these are now harvested and my parsnips are reaching for the sky, hitting the net and then leaves\stems are toppling over. Will this be okay? Or should I open them to the world? It's my first attempt at Parsnips so I don't know how tall they'd grow given the chance. The net is probably 2.5 - 3ft tall.

Your parsnips should be fine without nets , although we had some rabbit damage on ours before we fenced the plot .

We have nt grown any this year ,after last years bad germination etc ,yours sound as if they are doing fine .

You will enjoy them through the winter , they are best after the frosts have started, the flavour is better apparently.

Okay - I will free them tomorrow and see how big they get! Just had so many things getting in the beds earlier I wondered if this was the best course of action.

I'd get the nets off sharpish as they'll get tangled up if you leave them too long. I speak from experience Doh :oops:
