Overwinter japanese onions

I have a packet of onion seed for the Japanese overwinter variety that needs to be sowed in the next week or two.

Is it best to sow this seed directly into the ground, or grow it for a few weeks first in a greenhouse before planting out?

Hi pulse, I sowed my japanese onion seeds (senshyu) a few days ago, I've sowed them in modules and will plant them out when they are bigger. Don't know if this is right or not as never grown them before, but have no space on the lottie at the mo to sow them directly, so it was that or nothing!  :D

Never sown them always grew from sets, but if I was I think the greenhouse may be to warm if the sun shines.
