I too am disenchanted by the gardening mags and their annual repetition,  and prefer a good book and forum such as this.

I like Charles Dowding's 'Organic Gardening - No Dig Gardening' useful,
especially the tables for sowing and planting and avoiding pests.

Not read John's book, but will order it today.

I have kept my subscription to Garden Organic open. They are also a source
of advice and produce a quarterly magazine. This too has gone off in recent
years, with a large proprtion of its copy devoted to schools and foreign garden
projects - but is still a fair read.

I buy from their catalogue mainly because they will send a 30kg parcel to France by courier for £8. Since all of the other seed compnaies I have approached will only send packeted seeds to France, the Garden Organic catalogue will include seed potatoes
etc in their sending- which means I am still able to grow favourite varieties i cannot buy easily locally.
Little by little a bird makes its nest!
