Pop Hole Question
« on: August 25, 2008, 12:34 »
Hi, as a relative newby to this i would like some advice - We're going away overnight and was wondering if it was safe enough to leave the pop hole door open overnight ? They would be safe from foxes as the coop is withing the run, my question is, will they be warm enough with the door open ?

Hi stamford. Should think they'll be warm enough but are you sure your run is fox proof ??

What times are you away for ?

Yes they will be warm enough, if your run is secure you should have no worries.  :D  I often leave mine open in the summer months.

Make sure they have plenty of water and all will be ok, if they run out of food it won't matter too much for 1/2 a day or so.

Bet they'll be happy to see you come back  :D

I don't think I'd trust ours alone overnight. They'd get some friends in and wreck the joint.  :?

I do this with my ducks and they are fine.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Been wondering that myself, we leave the pop hole open at the moment, just so we don't have to get up at at 6 to let them out.  Their run is safe, so no worries there, but just wondering when that will get too cold for them.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Draughts are more of a concern than temperature. As has been pointed out, they would naturally roost in trees in the open so it's really extreme cold that is teh concern.
But cool draughts seem to give them problems. Beyond that, I don't know.
