Showing cabbages and Onions
« on: August 25, 2008, 09:31 »
My local show has a Novice Class "One cabbage green with guard leaves"

Does this mean that none of the outer leaves should be removed , even the scruffy ones ?

Also do "dressed onions" have their roots removed ?

Thanks

It may be worth giving vegmandan a pm, he knows his onions :-)

I don't know about the Cabbages but as far as dressed onions some judges are really picky.

You do remove the roots but you should also remove the root plate as well.

This requires you to scrape or pick off the round tough bit that the roots grow out of so you get a clean base, best to do it carefully with your finger nail.

It is really daft I know but some judges will mark you down if you leave it on. :?
