Potato Question
« on: August 23, 2008, 23:25 »
Puzzled by my daughter-in-law's plot.   She has a row of what looks like potatoes.  Leaves are like potatoes.  Not one spud in the ground.  Flowers are of potato family.  She has let them go to seed/fruit, they have large green round fruits about the size of grapes.  She is POSITIVE  that she planted NO potatoes.   PLEASE has anyone any idea what they could be?

Did the chickens plant them?
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Did she add compost with still viable bits of potato in? It doesn't need much to make plenty of topgrowth, however as you say it's in a row that would be spooky and not a random occurance

If it was chickens, they were in a very straight row     And THIS daughter-in-law has no chickens!  My guess is they are definitely potatoes, but there is not a potato to be seen underground :?

Sorry I was just being silly as this is the poultry chat forum

Although there a lots of sensible, cleaver people here there are a few more veggie people in the grow your own bit. Might be worth posting there too.

The bed is a raised bed with bags and bags of 'bought-in' compost from garden centre to make up the soil.  All the crops she has sown have been amazing, perfect carrots, great lettuces, tomatoes etc.

We get them on my side of the Island as well.  I think it's because the potato is related to Deadly Nightshade and the plant your DIL has is a weed from the same strain.  If it's a new species of 'non potato potato' we could claim the Island to have 'protected' status.  Just think of all the EU grants we could claim.
