mine like a bit of wild bird seed - the type you get at poundies etc.

don't give them too much though or too often because too much grain can slow down egg production but chooks are happy!

Hubby was just saying last night shame we don't have chooks yet - we have an infestation of caterpillars on all brassicas in our veg beds.....we had a frog in the veg bed though - do they eat caterpillars?  I hate caterpillars!  They eat my pakchoi and have deccimated the kohl rabi leaves and are starting on the calabrese and romanesco!!!

Veg beds & garden has been neglected this summer due to our chicken project...

I found a slug on the compose bin last night and thought i would try it with the girls again.  Now, i hate these things, really hate them.  The girls thought the same, they all gave it a peck and then run off wiping their becks.  Poor things.  At least i wont have to pick them up anymore.

lol  Vickie!!!

I can't stand slugs either!!! Yeeuuuch!!  Horrible slimy things!!!

That's one of the good reasons to get chickens isn't it?  They're supposed to eradicate the garden of slugs for you!!

Thanks everyone, that seems like a good start - I hope ours like slugs as our lawn is covered at night.
