My First Egg!! And Another This Morning!! YAY
« on: August 19, 2008, 18:01 »
I am so pleased with my girls, they are so happy and one has given me her first egg!!  I'm sure it was my favourite Masala, as she is always very submissive and had been sleeping in the nest box.

Well i just went to have a little chat with them, other another horrid day (weather wise) and i notice they had pulled all the bedding out off the nest box and on the floor off the coop was a perfect egg!! yay i am over the moon.  I wish they came out with a little stamp on it, saying made by..........  But Masala looked so happy with herself, i'm sure its her.  Unfortunately it was cracked alittle, i think they stood on it.  But i will forgive them for that, i will be having it for brekkie tomorrow!  My first home grown egg, i think i will be going to bed now!

I know, isn't that funny, she has been sleeping in the nest box the last few nights.  I'm sure she will get it in the nest box next time!

Yay! good girl!  (chicken, not you   )

soon you'll be overrun with eggs - every so often we have to have an egg tea night where we cook big omlettes and stuff!

Perhaps they could smell me cooking horrid supermarket eggs for my brekkie this morning!  and they decided to give me something better.

At least i am doing my job properly, and they are happy and healthy.  Can you tell i am smiling while i write this!

Masala has just given me another egg, making me question whether the first was hers.  One layed yesterday afternoon and one this morning, can a black rock lay that much.

She nearly got it in the nest box, she decided to make a nest next to the box, will she get the ideal that the nest box is for eggs! rather than making hard work for herself making one else where?

Hi, don't know about the speed of Black Rocks, but isn't it just great! I don't think I'll ever get over the thrill of collecting them! DD took one around to friends the other night in her pocket, saying "LOOK, an EGG!"  Fab.

FANTASTIC !!  Nothing better than fresh eggs.

The OH is so proud of our chickens and protective of their products that he now gives out instructions when we give eggs to friends that they must not scramble, cook with or make an omlet with the eggs... they must be fried, poached or soft boiled to properly savour them      Once someone laughed at him so we took their eggs back !!

Have yours anyway you like 'em, just remember to enjoy 'em  :D

Your Black rock has been made to produce 300  eggs a year.  Should be light brown with maybe a few brown speckles.
