We had sun today.

Between 2.30 & 2.32, I think. But things still look good.

AND you should have seen some of the pea seed I've saved :!:
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Precisely 2.31pm the sun came out here too! :)
However, I did manage to dodge a couple of showers, to pick a kilo of French beans (In the freezer now) and dug up the last of my charlottes. Ohh. and of course, I lopped a few of those luverly courgettes down. :pale: .... Is there no end to these???

I'm trying to hoe to keep the weeds down. Got half a plot to go but it's B... hopeless.

But we dashed down tonight to dig some spuds up - Best ever Kestrels I've ever had & no slug holes.

We've had a gorgeous day here (boast,brag)

I managed to get some work done on my beds at community garden, though I couldnt get to my plot, and did loads of weeding, cleared off the over and done with pea-bed (sob again) and was over the moon at my sweetcorn..its got tassles on it!!

Oh and I got swede and beetroot
(and found some carrots growing I never planted  :?:  :!: )

Does anyone know where I can get some Water chestnut and Rice plants for next year ?

I can guarantee that If I plant some of those next year then we'll have the dryest Summer on record. :)

had really good allotment weather here yesterday, didn't rain til after tea time which was fine.  but having to fit in visits to coincide with baby naps meant only an hour at the plot (but that was more than most on here by the sounds of it).  Today it is tipping it down again.  was going to go into town and do some shopping but I'm as much a fair weather shopper as I am a fair weather gardener!!  so maybe I'd just better knuckle down and do the paperwork I need for my social worker next week, thats about 3 hours worth of stuff, urgh.

Not just you Sadgit - I bought soaker hoses, still in their wrappers!

Had to lift all my onions (they were starting to ripen anyway) as the tops were covered in mildew - had this problem last year but put them upside down through large mesh fencing and hung up like a hammock in the outhouse. They dried and stored well, so have done the same this year (fingers crossed).

Also got rust on my leeks, blight on my spuds (had to lift early) and my butternut squashes keep rotting just as they get to the size of a pear!

Apart from that (slugs, snails, moles, whitefly, caterpillars etc. excepted), everything is doing just fine! Any more summers like this and I'm getting a polytunnel and I hate them!
