Doesn't look like it to me Maryann, yours has a different body shape.
But I could be wrong. Hope someone tells you soon, cos I'm intrigued now!
ps - looks like some kind of grasshopper or cricket though, I'm pretty sure....

Well you could be right there but I can't find anything on the websites for grasshoppers or crickets that look like this guy.

To be honest the photo's didn't come out so good as sun was shining (for the only time today) directly onto back door and he was sitting on the glass pane so it reflected badly.

He is quite robust - can fly - and is a very bright vivid lime green colour. I have found about 4 or 5 now in the salad leaves and on garden plants and they come indoors as well.

There is nor chirruping sound that crickets make - this one is silent

Looks like a katydid (Bush Cricket)...

though I didn't think they got that large in the UK...

Having read this ( http://www.countryside-trust.org.uk/edge/edgecricket.htm ) it seems they do!

Hi Scabs - that is a great photo but I don't think it is my bug.

I have found this website -

http://www.forestryimages.org/browse/autthumb.cfm?aut=2641&Start=31&sort=3

great info on it but yet to find anything that resembles the jolly green giant on my back door ...bit like the Pea Aphid on their site but my chap is a lot bigger and with very long skinny legs.

Iam assuming he is a chap of course  :?

Ooh that does look close to my one. Don't they make noises though?

We used to have loads of crickets in my Nan's farmhouse in Ireland but you always heard them.

We have had them indoors in the evening and not a sound  :?

Still it's looking like the favourite at the moment.

Big one on back door has gone off somewhere, probably munching my salad leaves again

Do they eat a lot these blighters.
