Raspberries & strawberries OK now. Garlic I plant late September/October.

Don't expect too much off the raspberries, it's not until they've had a year or two to multiply that you'll get a decent harvest.

How many strawberry plants have you ordered?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If the raspberries are summer fruiting, at the end of the season, you need to cut out the old canes and leave only the ones that emerged that year. They are the ones that will bear the fruit the following year.

If they are Autumn fruiting, you cut all the canes down.

Raspberries are really quite easy....although it does depend wether you go for autumn or summer fruiting . They do need to be either staked or trained up against a wire and post contraption.
Autumn raspberries fruit on the current years growth. Whereas the summer fruiting variety fuit on the previous years growth. Autumn rasps are usually cut right down to the ground around january time. Summer rasps can be cut down when they have finished fruiting and they will be throwing up new shoots  for fruiting the next year They do like a drop of manure chucked around their bases every autumn and in the springtime benefit from a sprinkle of potash.
