Runner Bean Stir Fry
« on: August 11, 2008, 19:50 »
I have been trying to feed us with food from the Lottie at least once per day, but today I was a bit stumped. I had some really nice Spring Onions (White Lisbon) for a stir fry but my carrots had been decimated by root fly. So I had to improvise and picked some Runner Beans.

Mrs FB doesn't like Runners so I knew it was a long shot....but I stir fried them with the springers and a few carrots and we both agreed it was delicious !!!!!!!!!!   :D  :D

what a good idea, you can only eat so many boiled/steamed runners.  will try that, thanks.  Mrs  Bouquet

They go great in a vegetable curry.

Especially if that vegetable curry contains a few chickens :!:
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

We did slice them quite thinly, about the width of a pencil.

Hope this helps.

I can recommend the Greek style beans from the recipe section. I was also getting a bit fed up with steamed / boiled runners so i tried that and they were yummy.
I've been picking pounds of beans and although they are my favourite vegetable (or at least one of them!) i've been starting to get a bit bored with them. I wonder if i'll remember next year not to grow so many?! Although i think it's all down to the Munty frame - we seem to be getting far more beans than others on the site. I can't wait to see if anyone else on our site builds a Munty next year!

that sounds really good too especially as we love curry.  After all these years never thought to use runners - everything else, but not runners  !!!!  Mrs Bouquet

Does that look better?

Honestly they do go well, with or without the chickens!

My dinner last night, most from the allotment:
Chopped up a big courgette, a few potatoes, a few red onions and a handful of runner beans. Mixed with some cloves of roughly chopped garlic and a couple of chopped tomatoes, and some olive oil and rosemary. Bake in the oven for about 45 minutes, then grill for about 5 to ten minutes till its getting all charred. THen serve with a whole lot of crumbled feta on top. (You could also put the feta on top for the last few minutes of grilling.)

I wash, slice and freeze them when we get bored with them.  We had runner beans with Christmas dinner.  Lovely.
