The purple podded beans which I got from DD earlier are fantastic!  Not only can I find them easily, unlike my other green beans, but they cook in minutes, turn a lovely green and taste wonderful.  Just wanted to say thankyou.  I wish I had only planted them so I could save the seeds without risk of cross pollination, but I will take a chance anyway.

Thanks Ali,

Most of them should be OK if you save them, but I've now got green podded beans & purple ones with red flowers from the same stock!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine are brilliant too - didn't seem so bothered with the blackfly as the runners. Thanks DD.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

DD I have never seen purple pod french beans.  I would like to try some next year.  Will they grow in my garden in a large tub, and if so where's the best place to buy them.  Ta.  Mrs Bouquet

I posted on another thread, (beans seem popular this year!), that I'm also growing a dwarf variety - "Purple Teepee". The advantage to these as opposed to other dwarf varieties is that the beans grow above the foliage & are easier to spot & pick...

You can get them from Thompson & Morgan, but I'm letting a lot go to seed   as my climbers are now producing heavily.

These would be ideal for tubs.

Thanks for that DD they look fantastic.  I shall try my G.C.'s to see if there are any around for next year.  Mrs Bouquet
