There are lots of other creatures that live in decaying wood and compost spring tails etc they all hate the light it dries them out or leaves the open to predators, just bung your hand in for a couple of minutes if they are mites then you will soon know, I'd bet money there not though.  :D

I'm not sticking my hand it, just moving the bags out of the garden and there were some running up my arms     yukk!!

I worked for B&Q for 5 years moving compost etc never got mites then, fleas from the rugs yes, mites from the compost no.
I'd honestly not worry Katt.

well had another look and its not easy as they really do move so fast but I think it looks like the two front legs are slight longer than the middle legs and maybe the back legs are slighty longer too??

longy, roundy  :D i can't tell but they do remind me slightly of those blood spiders we used to find on walls as a kid and squish them to make nice blooming splats

totally off topic here.. but Katt, PLEASE do yourself a favour and look for a horse feed company near you.. a bail of 25kg of shavings will cost around £7.50 or less... much much cheaper than the likes of B&Q. ;)

I'd take what Rich says.  He's got the experience and knowledge !!!

Bark chips in the run are good but not wood chips, too splintery and can cause bumblefoot (shavings are OK for indoors).

d'you know I was thinking the same thing, no rugs from B&Q

Auntie it was bark chips I got not wood chips, although I read on another forum that we shouldn't use bark chips as they harbour mould spores but I too think wood chips are too spikey for their little tutsies :)
