tomato shoots have got roots
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:51 »
After reading the wonderful advice on here, I stuck some tomato side shoots in water and one has rooted.  I potted it up yesterday and stuck it in the GH.
Now what happens? Will it flower and give me late toms?
(she says hopefully)

I grew one last year and got some toms off it, just like if you leave a side shoot on a tomato plant it will get fruit on.  I've got one in the greenhouse now that is just getting rooted.  It's one of the resienstraube's that Trillium sent me.  Not many of the seeds germinated, so rather than plant more seeds, I planted the side shoot instead!!!

Should do, just treat it like a young tom plant.

I've got 12 ex-side shoots going well in the lottie. Not that I overlook them in the greenhouse, you understand?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Suprisingly tomatoes are one of the easiest things to root!

i found some of my side shoots close to the ground had small white raised lumps that i presumed where going to turn into roots.

Seeing that my rampant tomato plants are out of control i chucked them instead of making more plants!!
