Not only do my ducks not lay, they don't float!!!

Well the pond is officially off limits until everyone has at least silver swimming proficiency awards.  After all my worries about Jemima going bald came home to find that Matilda has sunk in the pond  She wasn't looking too bad but in just a day has lost most of her primary and secondary feathers and had got waterlogged and couldn't get out of the pond   Feel terrible that I had left them with access to the pond with me out but they had all been looking better :?
Have to say she really didn't take it very well and I'm covered with scratches and bites but at least she is safe and the pond will be covered while I'm out until they are fully feathered again.  Lucy was far more dignified about it all  Wonder if it has to do with Campbells being heavy layers and being bred for egg production therefore moulting heavily and refeathering quickly so they resume laying again faster?

So especially for Chooknewbie (and the rest of you...)

Get me out of here NOW!

Really NOT enjoying the towel drying!!! Talk about ruffling feathers

"So are you you planning on flying South for your holidays this year?"

Looking fluffier and drier but not much cleaner :?
"Do you know what blow drying does to feathers, I won't be able to do a thing with it!"

Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Great pictures Kate,

but I can't belive you left her there whilst you went for your camera

Was reading something the other day regarding egg production & moulting, my memory is really shot 'cause I can't remember which book it was in or why i was reading it

Didn't! Had my mobile in my pocket! Would have never left her in distress for more than the 3 seconds it took to take it out and click (and wait the 2 secs for digital to actually work!).
The pond is definately being covered during the day for the near future but feel like a really bad duck owner for letting it happen a second time. Had though the danger was over now Jemima was over the worst of it but though Matilda wasgoing through one of the slow, steady moults

Those are hilarious expressions !

Talk about bad feather day. Poor little duck. Couldn't have happened on a warm, sunny day either. I'm sure the tomatoes will make up for it.

Thank you for the laugh  :D

I'm now wishing i had taken some pictures when my hens went swimming in their 'dustbath' when it turned into a pond. I forgot to dig in some sand, which i have done now.

Aww kate, get on okcupid!

CN - I know, really made me smile and had to take the pics!

FCG - Might have to rethink the byline. Not sure I would want to date someone who responded to "I'm wet, dirty and smell of duck poo".   Sounds even worse written like that. Lord knows what TMG will say!
