they were some cheap ones from homebase, they called them smile potatoes as they apear to have smiley faces, im sure they have a real name though. either way im happy, i only took on my allotment in may this year, i didnt think i would get anything let alone a shed full of spuds!

Yes I bet they do, but they look really good, hope someone knows. You've done really well!
I'm ashamed to admit that until I saw your photo, I never knew you could get "new" (ie scrapers, not salad) potatoes in reds

I'm new too lightyears, and loving the learning  :D

Just think, people who rely on supermarket veg (as we did until recently) are missing out on all these fab different varieties!
Will you plz report back on how your reds cook & taste? I'm determined to find out what they are

ooops, you did. Thanks  :D

well i made some mash out of them, so not really cooking as such lol. the boil very easy and have a fluffy texture when mashed. i had a couple unmashed and they had the same type of taste, light and airy but filling too

hear you are, found from a bit of googling,

Aptly named for its obvious white 'smile' on a pink skin. A unique variety with visually stunning appearance and so versatile in the kitchen.

Bred from Red Duke of York which explains its versatility and superb flavour.

Who'd have thought home grown veg could taste so good.

I think the runner beans are good examples of home grown being tastier, and the sweetcorn    I can't wait for mine. Salivating just thinking about it  :D
