flies on my sweetcorn

Hi

Am a complete novice to growing anything, so was alarmed to see 6 or 7 flies/bugs on the frongs coming out the top of my sweetcorn.... they didn't move when i touched them, so i had to pick them off, they looked a bit like large mosquitoes and had whitish abdomens.

what could they be and are they bad??

if they are there again today i will take pictures

Finally took a picture....

what are they? they seem to be sap suckers, hope they aren't going to kill my sweetcorn....

I think they could be stormflies; they are everywhere at the moment. With all the humidity and rain they come out in droves; quite harmless to your plants I believe.
