Yellow tomatoes...
« on: August 01, 2008, 22:10 »
Hi, I have loads of yellow plum tomatoes, I'm thrilled I never expected so many tomatoes to come off them...they put the red ones to shame

I was thinking I'll make some chutney...not made it before, is it just a case of using yellow in place of red?

Usually less acidic than the red ones, otherwise no diff.

I made the chutney...it tastes quite nice (considering it was still hot and not accompanied by cheese)

I just made a small amount as haven't made chutney before and didn't want to waste tomatoes if it was a disaster

I based it on Vals recipe but had already chopped up an onion so I threw that in as well, also used cider vinegar instead as had already bought it!

1 lb yellow toms
1 onion
1 apple
4 oz currants
2 oz soft brown sugar
1/2 pint cider vinegar
bit of salt and a shake of mixed spice

it took about an hour to go mushy and loose the juice, I think I could have used less vinegar and it would be quicker

it made exactly two jars

Feeling really pleased with myself, thanks Val and everyone  :salut:
