That's really helpful for me as well Sharon, thank you for the picutures.  Now I know what to look for if the tiny plants that I have planted grow!

I am trying to find a picture for you.
The tassels, are like pieces of thick cotton and are floopy from the start.
Are you confusing the seeds at the very top of the plants with tassels ?

sharon youre a star, thank you, my are the seeds at the top not the tassels. cant see any sort of cob swelling under there though? perhaps its a bit early

Hope this helps a bit

The seeds of the plant are the kernels on the cob.

The bit at the top of the plant is the pollen carrying male anthers.

The cob is formed much further down the plant, at a junction of the main stem & a leaf.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm sorry that I got muddled between the seeds and pollen.  I knew what I meant.
I do have an excuse though.  I have only had an allotment since the end of March and it's my first time growing sweetcorn too.
