Hello

My OH sowed a whole packet of 1200 cavolo nero seedlings. I have thinned them out, prob about 300 left and I am about to thin them again, but still there will be alot of them and it is impossible to inspect the underside of every tiny leaf. I notice that cabbage white butterflies have outwitted the butterfly netting sold to me at the garden centre    and I have found a few yellow eggs already. How else can I sort these pesky eggs please?

Thanks  :)

I doubt you would need near that many. About 20 say, with spares, just in case. The thing is, even if you could eat more , you get bored of the same old stuff over and over again.

Keep so many and go through them and then fleece them.

I agree , unless you are feeding 20 + like us then 300 is a lot too many.

So put any doubtful ones on the compost heap, inspect those you choose to keep , go for the strongest looking.Leave at least 1 foot between plants or transplant to that spacing, watering well .Cover with environmesh or fleece to keep out the predators --- pigeons, butterflies and rabbits.

Apparently kale can be frozen and also makes a delicious soup , portugese friend makes it and its yummy.

I could eat Kale everyday and I'm sure its good for your health but you may get bored !

I know it is too many. Thing is OH is very attached to them

I was hoping there would be a way to sort out the complete bunch so that we didn't have to thin them so drastically just yet (he doesn't want me to you see). But if thinning them out now is the only way then...

thanks (you have done me a favour)
