Is it pigeons?
« on: July 28, 2008, 09:51 »
I transplanted 11 purple sprouting broccoli plants last week. As I've had problems before with curly kale, I covered 9 of them with 2 litre water bottles, tops and bottoms cut off. The stalk leaves of one of the plants without protection have been snipped off and left on the ground!!! Is it pigeons? I do have mice (holes anyway) in the garden, could it be them?

Got another 4 plants to go in but not without protection - just going to my re-cycling plant now to beg again.
Try to be organic but will use black fly killer and a few slug pellets if desperate.

Very likely pigeons are damaging your stuff. Most folks put up support stakes then net the brassica area tightly so the beggars can't crawl under.
