What material do you have on the run floor Belinda ?  Chipped bark is fine but if that is wood chip it could be too splintery for them and cause foot problems  :!:

Lovely birds  :D

I am  collecting my chickens tomorrow morning. I am really excited and a bit nervous as well. I hope they like their new home my OH built it in the veggie garden. Here is a picture :D ]

Belinda, I think your hen house is lovely!  8)

My OH decided he will build ours as they are quite pricey to buy.  He's always fancied himself as a diy-er (despite not making anything!) & I think he's spent more money on wood, screws, hinges and tools than it would've cost to buy a ready made house & run!

As he spends his time tinkering with new electrical tools and changing his mind on the house plans (they're all in his head naturally!) I spend mine on-line - reading forums, researching breeds, finding suppliers & the like!

We've just registered for some ex-batts & if house is ready before we get our batts (3) - I hope to get a buff pekin; lemon cuckoo pekin; buff batam orpington; bovans goldline (meadowsweet ranger/gingernut ranger/gold star) and a french wheaten maran.  Well, they're my favs at the mo - any 3 out of them'll do!!  :D

Better get back to garden & help OH with hen house - it's taking forever to design & build!

.....Hope your new girls will love they're new home!  :)

Love the lavender ones. Keep thinking my next duck will be a lavender one (although Buff Orpingtons are so pretty, and Welsh Harlequins, and then there's geese.....)

It's a disease....

Beautiful Girls you've got there Belinda :D

I'll sort your Geese out for ya next spring Kate

Don't say that
You know how much I want them and if I thought for a second that I could give them the life they deserve I would take you up on that in a heartbeat! A semidetached in Liverpool has so many limitations :x
Roll on 2011....

Thanks Jelly and everyone else I hope they are going to become tame I'm trying not to stress them out to much at the moment as they are still settling in. They are eating and drinking ok and the two Lavenders put themselves to bed last night but the partridge is a couple of weeks younger was crying for them so I had to put her to bed. I'm sure she will get the hang of it soon :)

Has anyone got any advice about the woodchip I have on the run floor its B and Q soft woodchip. I'm concerned as Aunt Sally says it may hurt their feet. Have tried to look into it on the internet and found lots of different advice some places reccomending woodchip and some bark. Also advice saying bark can cause respiratory problems so I don't know what to do for the best now.

Well....if it helps, I have straw in the nest box and wood shavings (not chips) on the floor of the coop. Both on top of newspaper which makes cleaning out really easy! I haven't got anything on the floor of the run, just grass at the minute - don't think that will last for long though! So I'll re-think it after that but I was advised to used bark chippings.
