My ex-batts are fiiinally here (beware pic heavy)
« on: July 24, 2008, 18:05 »
They're heeeere! And seem to be settling in ok too (aside from one minor scuffle between two of them! lol)! They don't have any names yet, but there's one who just LOOKS like an 'Aggie', so aggie she is (nothing to do with the lovely agapanthus might i just add!!!)! lol

Here are the chooks as they were taken out of their boxes, one by one! (excuse al's ridiculous chicken handling skills! pmsl.. he's not that fab with chickens, and they're not exactly tame right now... and seeing as i was taking the pics.. well, he had no choice! haha   )

This one had a particularly poorly bum too, bless!

And them having their first taste of freeeeeedom! YAY!

AGGIE!

And one of them even laid an egg in her box on the way home in the car! lol..

Chooky, mabel and gertrude adapting to their confined quarters (only for the next week tho until they can be introduced back into the main house!)  :(

So there you go! The first batch of rescued ex-batts! Hopefully there'll be lots more in the future!!!  :D  xxxx
Trying to live the good life.. getting there slooooowly...

Congratulations, they will be beautiful and already paying you back for their freedom.

Oh doesnt it make you want to cry. They look so bewildered. At least now they will taste freedom and be cared for as they should be.
Cant wait to see them a few weeks from now.

ive had my bat hens about 3 weeks now, they looked just like yours! Not anymore! Their feathers have started to grow back so theres no bare skin and they've settled in really well, i watched them for about 10 mins today dust bathing, they're so happy. And they get on with my other girls really well, had no problems at all.Good luck x

Hiya, good on you for getting ex batts. Doesnt it make you want to cry at the way theyve been kept. We noticed an improvement in ours within a week, weve had ours 4 months now and they have all their feathers back, weve found them far more tame than our other chickens, they follow us around and love the worms that OH digs up for them.

oh good grief, look at them poor things  :(   You can't believe it's allowed in this day and age. blooming ridiculous. I don't know how the farmers can do it though.  When we take such pride and care in looking after our birds and strive to keep them healthy and happy and yet we're the amateurs    It's heartbreaking it really is.

I'm sure they're loving their new-found freedom already and the sun on their backs.  Some sunshine will be very good for their healing process I'm sure. Good luck with them  :D

The farmers do it Compostqueen because the public demand cheaper and cheaper food!  Hopefully that trend will start to reverse a bit now with all the publicity, but there are still many many people who won't care about the animals as long as they can have cheap food.

Good on you Beki for giving those poor little girls a better life!
