I would like to build up a picture of when hens start to lay. I vote per hen please.

Which one out of my 400+ are you interested in?  The meat chicken who started to lay at 14 weeks, or the Goldline who started at about 48 weeks  or all the others in between?

Our cat has never laid. I'm a bit peeved that she isn't pulling her weight.

Our first layer was at 24 weeks I think but the final one was about 3 or 4 weeks later. It seems so long ago.

I was finishing a week of night shifts and one of the lads I worked with asked me what I was going to do with my day. Said go home, feed the animals and go to sleep. Asked me what animals and I replied "Cats and Ducks"
He thought that having to worry about them would be a pain and I explained that I didn't think of it as a chore especially as I got eggs from it.

He said "YOUR CATS LAY EGGS!!!"

Said of course not, the ducks lay eggs. That made sense to him as he had thought I had said dogs not ducks and he knew that dogs don't lay eggs!
This man has a degree but thinks it possible for cats to lay eggs! So maybe yours will to Rob, with a little encouragement.

Thanks for your votes folks. Some of us get worried that a 14 week old is not laying and some of us wonder why our 26 week old has not started yet. The results so far are very interesting but it would be better if there were a lot more of them. There will always be some who fall outside the range that I selected but with more votes it will all smooth out. It does not matter if you vote with the hen that started first or the last one or even an average. Thanks.
