Saving garlic bulbs

I've just harvested my garlic and I'm pleased with the results. I was going to leave it 'til the middle of August but the leaves developed rust.
The bulbs all seem OK though.

I was going to keep three bulbs to plant out for next years crop. Will the rust disease cause any problems if I do this or is it just a problem with the foliage.

The rust shouldn't affect the planting bulbs, provided that you peel off any signs of rust asap. If you plant any rust infected papery coverings, then you'll plant the fungus, so keep regular checks on the intented seeds. If you see signs of fungus on the covers, you can strip the coverings off right to the bare bulbs and you'll still be okay. Normally you'd keep the coverings on the individual cloves, but planting infected clove coverings is definitely unwise. Wish you luck.

One of my garlic appears to have developed a lump in it's neck...it looks like it's trying to grow more cloves there - Any ideas anyone ?
