Soft fruit bushes...

treated myself to a gooseberry, blueberry and blackberry bush. :) To start my fruit 'slope'. :)

But.. am wondering if i need to fleece them in the winter or if they'll be ok? we're on a hillside so get a fair bit of rain/wind.

Thanks :)

Never heard of any need to fleece fruit bushes in the winter.
Dont know about blueberry but I've got the other 2 and they're as hard as nails.
I suppose blossom could get nipped off in a spring frost but its never happened to mine.

Blueberry is at least as hardy. :D

Make sure they don't go dry in the summer, hm, if we get any, perfectly wrong time of year for planting.

They are potted up.. and being dumb I said blackberry not black CURRANT lol it's the current i have not brambles! lol

They are all plants in fruit from a garden centre. :) figured if well watered they'd be ok and mother nature is helping me with that one at the moment :)

Thanks all for the advice on fleecing or not... will see how the winter goes. :)

No matter - blackcurrants will be OK.

"Soft fruit" does not describe them well when it come to hardiness.

lol glad they are hard! :) they'll need to be by us.. We merrily pick blackberries in the woods near us.. always find somewhere and bake a few cakes ;)

Hope to make the back slope totally fruit, with a middle section to the fence line (hubbies been busy putting in steps up the slope) so we can get to the back fence and intime put in a gate. :)
