Omlet Feeder and Drinkers
« on: July 11, 2008, 18:16 »
I have a question........as my run is small and I would like to save as much space as possible, plus my hens seem to just tip all of their food all over the floor regardless of what I try.  I was thinking about buying the Omlet water/feeder.

So my question is has anyone attempted to fit the Omlet water/feeder to a non-eglu?

If so how did you do it and you have any pictures I can have a look at?

Also any feed back from current users.......do they really stop food spillage and are they ok after being put in the dishwasher?

Any help much appreciated.

Andy

was wondering if you could adapt some margarine tubs? or old tupperware? put a couple of holes in either end and attach with wire to the run? Or what I do is hang feeders from inside of the henhouse which keeps the mice away and keeps the food dry inside :D

The Omlet feed and water containers are excellent and just hook onto the wire run There's a little movie clip on Here

My hens don't spill any food from them they keep the food dry and are mouse proof as they slip off if the try to climb onto them.

I've never dishwashered mine.  Never needed to as they just rinse clean.

So do you think the wire on my run will be strong enough to support the weight of the two feeders? I was thinking I would cut holes big enough for them to be supported.

http://www.ashton-online.com/HTML/Hens.htm

The video of them does look good are you sure the hens can't push them off??

Those two hens in the video were very well behaved......mine usually dart around the garden and try to eat the veggies!!!!  :?

My hens have never knocked them off of the run wire.

How strong is the weldmesh on that run ?  I'd say it holds at least a kilo of feed.

They would need to be hung on the vertical sides of your run.

I don't believe that the wire is very stong to be honest......but I am building a run extension at the moment so was thinking of incorpoating these feeders in to the design.

I was thinking about puting a line of extra strength wire along one side for them to hang on i.e. strenghten the existing wire.

Or I could build in some sort of hook system on some wood........

I think I might have to buy them and see what I can do.

Thank you for your help Aunt Sal!!

Actually I was thinking I could buy some thicker netting for the side I am going to hang the feeders........

I could ask a favor Aunt Sally.........what size are the holes on the wire netting of the eglu and do you know the thickness of the wire??

Many thanks

Totally off-topic, if you move your files up a folder ( ie move everything in /HTML/ into the parent folder / ) then you'll improve your search rankings ;)

You'll need to redo all your page links to suit although any decent editor can search/replace in files

I do like the eglu feeders but one of my new chooks is a monkey and scrapes her beak along to drag out the food. We are going to put something under it to catch it all...mind you the other 2 are trying very hard to do clean up jobs under the feeder lol

mine scoop out all the food from the feeders with their beaks, it's what they prefer and they seem to enjoy eating it off the floor. They scrabble about in it first usually  :D
