« on: July 11, 2008, 15:03 »
Hi all,

Is it possible to rake a cutting from an established Raspberry tree and be able to grow it in another place?

If so could someone explain what part and how

Kind Regards Nathan

Good question Nathan, and I too would be interested in the answer as I have inherited one sole raspberry cane with my plot but it's not where I want it, so it'd be useful to be able to both reproduce from it and move it over winter.

Organic...so far!

You don't take cuttings from raspberries.

They produce off shoots (suckers) which can be dug up in the autumn & replanted.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

A new cane will pop up away from the main plant. Simply dig this up with a sharp spade in the autumn & replant.

hi there , your raspberry plants with produce new shoots from the main plant  , you can take these new plants from the main plant, re plant the off shoots then in october to november cut all your raspberries down to 1 inch high , they will all come back with vigour ,

Only do this to summer fruiting raspberries though, if you don't want the bother of harvesting next year!

This is OK for autumn fruiting varieties.

Do you mean that only canes with fruit should be cut?

If you have summer fruiting canes, at the end of the year you cut out the ones that fruited, leaving the ones that grew this year for next year's fruit.

If you chop them all off as suggested - no raspberries next year.

Autumn fruiting ones you do chop right down as they bear fruit on the canes that grow that year.
