In the states my uncles who are all big farmers used to say thar sweetcorn must be "knee high by the fourth of july"  well, mine is ankle high so I don't think I have a hope in h---.of harvesting any corn,  I think sometimes they used to say -"we've got lazy corn this year" any body else have lazy corn this year? :roll:

same here... and some aren't even knee high. However I am sure they are about 10 foot underwater by now as it has rained for a week solid!!!!!!!!!

Mine are knee-high, but then I'm only 5 foot 2 inches. However, my friend's sweetcorn apparently have 'hairstyles' already - mine haven't  :cry: Anyone else got 'hairstyles' yet?

muddi, mine are still only ankle high too. I did only sow them on 31st May though, on the off-chance as I thought it was a bit late, but worth a try!

Mine have hairstyles! Infact only last night i saw some baby cobs pushing out from under a leaf... very exciting  :D

I have baby corn also. Does this get as tall as normal sweetcorn?

I don't know how tall mine were on 4th July, but as they are flowering, I'm not that bovvered.


Don't tell your uncle, but they come in different sizes, not that you want to wear them, but probably could provide for a wide range of knee hights. :wink:

My sweetcorn doesn't seem to have grown for weeks. It's really tiny. I'm a bit worried about them  :( most of it only just over ankle height at the moment.

Here's hoping that we'll get a warm spell soon and they start to catch up... but in the mean time... there's always raspberries and leeks?!!
