4 chicks down bxxxxxd fox or cat
« on: July 10, 2008, 16:38 »
4 of our young chicks 18-20 weeks or more that had been outside alongside our 2 1 year old chickens in a totally enclosed run have gone

feathers everywhere and no sign of any chicks

either a fox or cat actually bent the chicken wire in order to get in

I think that will be a fox Daz  :!:

Chicken wire is NOT fox proof.  If they don't bend it they can bite through it

Sounds like the fox has been killing and taking the birds away to bury somewhere one by one.  He will be back for the rest of them if he can get to them which is prob why there are no bodies just feathers.
Can you make them more secure tonight?

the 2 hens that are left are in a seperate enclosure thats not coverd on top so they get locked in at night so they are safe as long as no foxes come round in the day when we are out

im gona be alot more vigilant now tho and i aint getting no more till i have built the big run i plan to and have it secure enough
