Pulling Carrots and putting them back
« on: July 08, 2008, 03:17 »
I pulled up some carrotts thinking they were bigger than they were.  Can I shove them back in the earth to grow a bit more, or will they now not grow any bigger because I pulled them out.

They are nicer tasting bigger, had some before that I pulled too early and found they were not as sweet.

thanks
Sheila

Even though you term them 'small' you'll find that they are too large for replanting. Having been pulled up, most of the fine roots off the main root will have been destroyed.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thats a shame.  They came up by accident with the bigger one, hidden under my celery and manic salad bowl lettuce so didn't see them so close.

By the way you may remember I said I found the carrots I picked before not sweet enough.  I picked them too early, I assumed that they would be nice baby carrots and taste the same as big ones but sweeter as they were babies (not sweet cos they are lickle babies as in ah cute...if you see what I mean).  WRONG the full size ones taste much nicer.

I have found that as regards taste.  Not what you'd expect.

Ask any good chef.  Mature carrots always have more flavour !
