Harvesting onions
« on: July 07, 2008, 20:17 »
I had to harvest most of my onions as a couple of weeks ago the storms snapped them all.
Do I cut the leaves off? Last year I harvested them when the foliage had begun to die back, but the foliage on this lot is all fresh and green.

Or do I just let it die off itself? I don't want them to rot or anything  :(
First timer, NOT enjoying the backache anymore!

Let then die naturally, I'd say.

Cutting the stems off can lead to diseases getting in.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Keep them some where dry with their tops still on would be my advice . Same reasons as DD.

Thanks guys, I've just put them all in the shed, I'll leave the tops on.

Of course I was going to let them dry naturally in the sun....

Ahem........
