Tomato problem??
« on: July 07, 2008, 12:46 »
This is my first year of growing anything so just humour me if this is just normal. (Sorry I can’t get any pictures)

At the base and stem of the tomato plant there are bumps on them, is this normal, or do I have something like blight?

I do have a bit of a problem with pests at the moment (white fly, red spider and aphids) so not sure if this would have anything to do with it? But am resolving this at lunch time by going to B&Q to get some pest control spray.

If they are small, they are probably dormant root buds or not that dormant.

Yeah, they sound just like gobs said, dormant root buds, can go up quite a way, and later on you may even see them getting not so dormant!

If you've got spindly tomato plants like I did in 3" pots becasue I was late putting them in the polytunnel, you can plant them deeper and thsoe little stubbles will grow and make a lovely strong root system.

I discovered on this forum a couple of years ago that you can even replant the side shoots you take off and they will grow into a new tomato plant.  I tried it last year, it WORKED!!!!!
