Plants off to a lolling start

I'm growing beetroot and swede both sown direct and in pots, and whereas the direct-sown ones are stable and upright with leaves forming right at the base, the ones sown in peat modules seem to have an extra-long stalk and resemble livestock in the US reared with growth hormones in that they can't stand up on their own two feet and just loll pathetically to one side, though they otherwise seem to be growing normally.

I was wondering if I should 'earth them up' to where the leaves start? - they do look very fragile and top-heavy in the state they're in.

I declare this thread hijacked as I have no idea what to do for the original question but the reason for legginess could be that the pots are in a warmer situation. Warmth cuases legginess. (As well as low light levels.)
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

You'll find plenty of references to "leggy" & "leggyness" on this forum without directing us to another!!!!

Just stick them in a bit deeper when planting out.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I find that this happens with my pot grown ones too,  I just make sure they're firm in the ground, planted just a little further down than in the pot when they get planted out and they stay just fine
