Apple/Pear Tree

I'm planning on buying/getting a few Hens very soon, probably after my holidays which would make more sense.I've more or less got the Coop ready and obviously know where the Run will be as the Coop is permanant,i can, with a bit of thought, creat two runs for rotation however i have two developing fruit tree's where i want one of the runs which are'nt very tall, would the Hens ruin the trees ? I was thinking of putting a protector around them until they get a bit bigger, they are approx 5' to 6' tall.
Cheers Alan

Mine are near fruit trees (the small column type) and they don't seem to bother with the fruit, only jump up to get the bugs on the bark and sometimes scratch around the roots to make a dustbath - I think that is because my OH removes the grass from around the trunk to protect the trees!

Afternoon,

I have a dwarf apple tree in my hens' run, though well established it is only 6' tall, and my girls love it.  Some of the branches are low enough for them to jump about in it and the creey crawlies provide lots of snacks after siesta time... Ole ! One of them thinks that she is a wood pecker cause she goes at it like a pneumatic drill when she finds something yummy  :D   Just have to watch that it isn't too easy for them to get up the tree and launch out of the run if it is too close to fencing.

How exciting for you... pics when you get them... please  :D

We are collecting our new hen house next week end and it is fantastic.
