anyone grown these? just wondered on your opinions.
boiled they are foul, not much better as chips...i only got 5 plants tho cos the frost got alot of the seeds in the winter while they were chitting in the shed.
the rest of my second earlies are nadine which are delicous, defo growing them again, defo not growing kestrel anymore.
my first earlies were maris bard, hammered by slugs and scab. the second earlies are untouched by scab and slugs.presumably this is down to them being a newer variety?

Might be repeating myself here, but have you tried steaming them?

Quite agree with agapanthus.  Haven't boiled spuds for years - always steam them. Kestrel steams beautifully.

A lot of folks grow them here - some admittedly for the sole reason - that slugs leave them alone.

I don't, they are not worth mentioning for my taste buds.

For earlies, Orla and Charlotte, try a third one every year, but nothing else as yet that I'm returning to for different reasons. These are trouble free and taste nice on my site.

Just harvested some "Winston". They were recommended to me by an old gargening friend. Yummy

We grew kestrel a couple of years ago and we weren't too impressed either. We have had some of the foremost this year and they were lovely and as previously mentioned we have done orla. It seems odd but it does appear to depend where on the plot we grow them as to what the taste is like.  :?

Yes, Foremost has not much disease resistance though and that is also important for me. Winston shall go on my short list, what soil have you got, Jen?

Matron, that might not be weird at all, soil is quite often patchy and different within a garden area.

Ah, Gobs that might be right. Our plot is on a slight slope and the soil near the bottom is a bit clay whilst the soil at the top is quite light. We will have to experiment with different varieties in different areas.
