I surrender! 20, blimey.
I saw some 'exhibition' shallots on the site yesterday,
60p a set. They did look good. Each plant had 3 or 4 bulbs and the were all of a uniform size and all a god shape
I'll try a few next season

Hative De Niort is what the exhibitors use.

I've seen them at a couple of quid a piece  :shock:

I don't grow shallots for show but I've heard that there is a wierd and wonderful procedure of slicing each bulb into seperate plants as soon as the shoots appear with a razor blade so each one has a bit of root ,then planting these individually so you just get one unhindered shallot growing and you then get perfectly shaped ones.

Lifes too short for that I'm afraid.

Yep, WAY too short, glad I just enjoy eating them and never worry about the shape
