Thanks but wouldn't infected manure mean all the plants got infected or could it just get a few of them?

It looks like herbicide drift from somewhere.  Has any one been using any recently  :?:

Or herbicide in the manure http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=18430

How far can it drift? There's only a tree plot on the one side and I don't think they have needed to use anything - just recently strimmed it. On the other side it's the other half of my plot.

Is it quite normal for it only to affect a few plants (whether herbicide or manure)?

Most odd

I wonder what the effect of a fox weeing on them would be  :?:    I know that when male cats spray foliage it can kill it off.

OH ! There was a big cat on the plot last night. He just wouldn't go away. He just kept hunting mice really near to where we were working - don't know why as there was no one else around really and he could've had any space he liked. So do you think that's it??

Does that mean i need to dig them up and chuck them or might they recover?

Can you see the veins as green? Are the hanging rolled up leaves brown or is that an illusion of technology?

It could be something sinister, Sanuka. What variety are they and where are the seeds from?

I'm not sure on the details, I'll have a closer look tonight. They are vivaldi bought from a local garden centre.

This looks very like something that has affected my potatos. Some fading, most OK.

I dug out the two worst affected and found 1lb of healthy potatoes. So not too bothered.

That is a very healthy little number, if you manured for them equally well, one thing you should check for is tiny round knobs of cysts on the roots, to make sure you don't have an eelworm infestation started. You might need a magnifying glass, they are about 5mm or so.

I went up to have another look and it looks worse :( The viens on the yellow leaves look green. There are definately brown leaves. I did try and have a look at the roots but I'm not confident I'd be able to tell cysts. they were a general mess - here's a photo of the stem of one plant http://www.flickr.com/photos/28180646@N04/2628964506/

at the bottom it looks hollowed out - either eaten or rotted?

Here are very brown and dried leaves http://www.flickr.com/photos/28180646@N04/2628964506/

I did find a little potato - about olive sized - but I didn't dig very deep. I'm thinking I should've dug them up?

The strange thing is it's only 3 plants out of 40 all planted together.

Quite likely to be black leg this, a bacterial rot. Very popular this year. I just dug some up with it, too.

Be careful not to cause damage to neighbouring plant tubers when lifting, so spreading it.

Dispose of the sick plants and try to get all tubers out, if some are reasonable size, they are edible if no sign of rot is on them this starts on the root attached end, be prepared to find some yuky ones.

Ok thanks, I'll dig them out tomorrow. Can i plant something else in the space that's left or do I need to leave it?
