Planners project - Cluckingham manor!

During the week the hutch arrived, spent the weekend preparing the plot and the coop. Got a mate round to quote on supplying the fencing posts and brought the mesh on Saturday. Dug a slot trench around the plot so I can bury the first 6" of the mesh. Still got to clean up by the trench.

This picture shows the size of the plot. It measures just over 5 metres by about 2.5 metres.

Today was all about building the coop and fitting it out. Brought the coop for £65 inc delivery. (Actually brought 2 but the daughter has taken it, she now wants her own hen at her house).

Assembled it and modified it adding roosting bars. Also filled all the joints with PVA

Next weekend I will hopefully be fencing the run in and cleaning up the plot. Maybe in about 2 weeks I can start hen hunting... :)

Hi too many girls.

Sorry to hear about Lonely being bullied.

I brought the coop from the Happy Hutch Company. They were listed in their bargin basement section, but sadly they are all sold out. Worth keep checking with them though.

Yes sure, I hope to post up a few pics next weekend showing progress of the run.

With regards to hens, I am thinking of getting a couple of Sussex lights and a couple of Rhode Island reds. What does the forum think of this combination?

TMG you could convert an old hutch (buy 2nd hand or ask on Freecycle) :)
I did it really easily for our first 'house' just boarded up the mesh door, left some ventilation at the top. removed the divide for the bedroom area and put a perch in from front to back - 2 girls were very very happy in there.. if you want a ramp and smaller door then you can cut one into the bedroom door and put a ramp on so it 'closes' the hole when you raise it and lock it. :) cheap project and fine for 1 or 2 hens. :)
