Sunday: trenched last of 48 leeks.

Today: On checking, one vanished, one pulled out the ground and lying three feet away.

Pigeons? Rabbits?

only netting works, they get used to everything else. *looks forlornly at pigeon perched on scarecrow*.

That's horrendous stuff - you never can lay it out straight.

I've bought some of this......

Debris Netting

Initial outlay seems high, but there's a lot of it, very fine & very stong. Also comes in 3m widths.

If it can stop bricks falling, it can stop pigeons! You'll need a sturdy support though.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

being so new to gardening and getting our plot so suddenly- I bought veg. already growing from the garden centers- and one of them was leeks. well I planted them in april and they are looking fantastic,BUT  everyone else in planting them now-I've since been told the error of my ways with leeks.  is there anywhere I can get them now to plant for the winter crops or could I still plant some seeds or is it to late now?  We do love leeks so it would be nice to have some later in the year or next spring.

by the way whats happened to Aunt Sally ?  I miss her knowledge and wit.
